Family Cycling Holidays in Scotland

A family of three cycling in the Scottish hills

Vurie Adventures family cycling holidays are designed to be fun. From experience we know that children of different ages pose different challenges and we also know that regardless of age, children are at their happiest when they’re having fun. That’s why all our family oriented holidays are designed with fun maximisation in mind. Our strategy is simple – the cycling routes are interesting and varied with enticing distractions along the way. And in between cycling days we include alternative activity days to keep troublesome tots and teens chirpy.

Along our cycling routes you’ll find forests, lochs, rivers and hills each presenting the opportunity to try something different: high ropes courses; zip wires; canyoning; white water rafting; wild swimming; rock climbing; canoeing; hill walking; kayaking; archery; and more. And of course some hotels and destinations have swimming pools and other leisure facilities.

We have designed our cycling routes to make best use of quiet roads, cycle paths and other tracks in order to avoid motorized road traffic as much as possible. We realise as parents that we can relax and enjoy our holiday much more when we’re not worrying about motor vehicles travelling close to our children. more..

All of our tours are graded from very easy to tough. The easiest routes are generally flat and run on relatively smooth terrain. We recommend these gentler tours to families from the assumption that some family members will not be seasoned cyclists. Of course some families will be avid cyclists and this rule will not apply, in which case you may wish to look at some of our other holidays.

As a rule we do not put an age limit on our holidays. Nobody knows your family’s abilities better than you. And we know from experience that some five-year-olds would be happy to cycle twenty miles along the flat on a single-speed-bike in the company of friends while some adults would baulk at doing even ten. Our grading system and route descriptions are designed to help you decide on which holiday is suitable for your family.

To us a family unit could constitute anything from one parent and a toddler to a group including grandparents and infants and every generation in between. That’s why when you have any questions regarding your holiday we should have the answers. If we don’t we shall endeavour to get them. Please feel free to ask our staff any questions you may have. We can advise if the route is suitable for trailers. We know which shops sell nappies, where the chemists are and so on. The information packs we provide also include the sort of snippets that might prove useful to all family groups.

We have carefully selected our accommodation to ensure that it is family friendly and where possible has a pool and other leisure facilities or is near to such amenities. We also seek out accommodation with the best possible free Wi-Fi connectivity. We find family run accommodation is friendlier and more able to meet our needs.

We aim to take the hassle out of your holiday and arrange everything from cycle hire to accommodation to baggage transfer. We provide detailed information packs that include route maps and emergency contact numbers and also provide en route support where required. ..less
